Prep for violence and other disasters, plus social media guidelines, Disaster planning, active shooter prevention, and more.

OPUMC Leaders,

Pastor M.E. asked me to send this out to the OPUMC church leadership. Information is related to items from UMC.org Church Protection Guide email that was just sent out by email. There is a lot of good information gathered by the UMC.org for many areas that we should look at. This is the list of topics for February 2018.

Thanks

Larry Shaver

Disaster planning can be overwhelming. It can be difficult to think about what might happen in your church, and the possibilities might seem endless. But, planning for a disaster can make an enormous difference should one occur.

This spring, we’re releasing a new e-book resource that can help you navigate the often-complicated territory of disaster planning. Here’s a preview of what you can expect.

One specific crisis that you can prepare for is the possibility of an active shooter. We will be doing a series of articles that can help you create a safer environment for church members. This article focuses on forming a response team.

We also take a look at how your church can use social media appropriately in these two articles:

And, we have a Winter Checklist for you to consult to make sure your property is weathering the season.

We hope you enjoy this issue. Email me with any feedback or questions you may have, and feel free to forward this publication to others who may benefit from it.

Happy reading!
